The Boat: Mark operates a 17 foot Maverick. The HPX-S. A "True" 6-inch draft. This allows him to go fishing in places before and leave after everyone else. FAQ
WHAT IS THE SEASON FOR REDFISH?
Redfish are a highly sought-after species all year round here in Hilton Head. Each season presents its own unique opportunities and techniques for targeting these prized fish. During the winter months, the water in our area becomes exceptionally clear due to the colder weather. As the temperatures drop, the growth of algae and other organic matter slows down, resulting in crystal clear conditions that are perfect for sight fishing. It's truly a sight to behold when you can see the redfish swimming in schools, sometimes numbering as high as 500 fish per school. This phenomenon typically occurs from late fall through early spring.
As we transition into spring, the thrilling experience of tailing redfish in the grass becomes more prominent. Around March, we start to see these redfish tailing, which means they are actively feeding in the shallow grassy areas. By late April, this activity reaches its peak and continues until the beginning of November. However, it's important to note that each year can bring variations in the timing of tailing redfish due to factors such as water temperatures and moon phases. Interestingly, there are certain indicators that help us predict the presence of tailing redfish. For instance, the sightings of fiddler crabs scurrying about and certain flowers blooming serve as telltale signs that the redfish are actively tailing in the area.
In conclusion, Hilton Head offers a year-round fishing paradise for redfish enthusiasts. Whether it's the clear winter waters or the exciting sight of tailing redfish in the grass, there's always a unique and thrilling experience waiting for anglers seeking to go fishing for these fish.

WHAT Tackle DO I NEED?
For targeting redfish, we prefer an 8 weight fly rod for its versatility in casting and presenting flies. For larger Bull Redfish, we switch to a 9 or 10 weight rod for more power. We pair our rods with Large Arbor reels for quick line retrieval and use floating fly lines for surface presentation.
Our setup includes 9-foot tapered leaders and 20lb test strength tippets for strength and durability. For bigger fish like Tarpon and Jacks, we use 10-12 weight rods with customized leaders and tippets for precision and control. Our gear is specifically chosen to suit the species and conditions we face, ensuring the best fishing experience and success rate.

WHERE DO WE LAUNCH THE BOAT?
We tend to wait to pick a boat landing as we get closer to our fishing trip. We want to see what the weather is going to do. Wind direction can be better at different boat landings. So we want to make sure we have the best fishing trip possible by picking the boat landing based off of where you are staying, and what areas are fishing best to provide you with a trip of a lifetime.
